Week 7 – Deep Thought

Well this week was Choose Your Own Adventure week. Which basically just meant we had a choice out of Comedy or Philosophy. Since I’m not the type that can consciously think ‘I’m gonna make people laugh’ and actually make them laugh, I chose Philosophy (plus i like philosophy).
On monday instead of exploring our topics we had a camp reflection, which basically involved putting pictures of us up on the board so everyone could see (luckily there were only like, 2 pictures of me).
Tuesday we had Courageous Conversations, which was practically HOW TO SPEAK YOUR MIND but nicely. Then we had a class on our themes. For us philosophy people it was basically really hard to figure out ethics. I got tons of eye rolls when i brought up The Matrix, when we were debating whether Carly’s computer really existed (It’s actually a real philosophical principle guys).
Wednesday was trail and they took us to Headspace (I know what you’re thinking, why take us to a teenage health place when we’re doing philosophy). We studied values and more ethics.
Thursday was all electives, team project, community service and rehearsals for the midyear concert (and the actual thing).
Friday i wasn’t there for sessions 1&2 (because i slept in until 9, the midyear concert ran really late). We then had Photo Bingo, which was taking arty photos to represent expressions.

Question Time:
‘It’s easy to do the right thing’ Agree or disagree…
I think that it really depends on the circumstance. There are some really clear cut situations where it’s black and white and there are some situations that are only grey. It’s really hard to make decisions sometimes, and you just have to choose the one you can live with.
Most of the time there is no clear cut right and wrong, there is just stuff that’s more okay and stuff that’s less.
On Immanuel Kant principle of ethics, i personally think that it’s silly to expect people to follow the same set of rules all the time. Situations change and you have to change with them.
